NM400 vs NM450: Choosing Wear Plate by Duty Cycle
NM400 and NM450 are neighbours in the GB/T 24186 abrasion-resistant family, separated mainly by delivered hardness: 370–430 HBW versus 420–480 HBW. The right pick is not the hardest plate — it is the plate whose hardness, bendability and cost match how the bucket, liner or chute actually wears.
Hardness BandsNM400 delivers 370–430 HBW and NM450 delivers 420–480 HBW in the quenched-and-tempered condition, measured as a three-point average per the GB/T 24186 convention. The 50-point HBW step sounds small; in high-abrasion service it is the difference between a liner that wears with the load and one that outlasts the surrounding structure.
Bendability Is the TradeThe extra carbon and alloying that buy hardness take away cold-forming margin. NM400 bends and flames more comfortably, which is why fabricators pick it for lined buckets that need countersunk holes and curved sections. NM450 prefers simpler shapes, larger bend radii and drilled rather than punched fastener holes.
Where Each One FitsNM400 suits dump truck liners, chutes and hoppers where abrasion comes with moderate impact. NM450 earns its keep on high-abrasion, lower-impact duty: crusher liners, scraper bars, screen plates. Mixed fleets commonly run NM400 on impact faces and NM450 on sliding-abrasion faces in the same body.
Not a HARDOX CloneBuyers sometimes ask for HARDOX by name. NM400/NM450 sit at corresponding hardness classes under GB/T 24186, but the standards differ and they are not equivalents on paper. If a specification is HARDOX-locked, flag it early; otherwise the NM route delivers the same duty class at a friendlier number.
SupplyNM360/NM400/NM450/NM500 supply in 6–80 mm, widths 1500–3200 mm, MOQ 25 t, 15–30 days from Tianjin or Qingdao, with hardness values stated on the mill test certificate. Send the liner drawings and wear photos — we quote grade and thickness together, not just the plate.
